Sculptural candles,
handmade in Vancouver, BC
Titan Candles makes sculptural candles in soy wax and beeswax, somewhere between a candle and a small sculpture. Every piece is detailed and finished by hand in our North Vancouver studio, so no two come out exactly the same. Arian Karami works in small batches. The Genesis Collection is seven figures from Greek mythology, each 30cm tall and cast in soy wax. Other pieces use beeswax or a soy and beeswax blend, depending on their size and how deep the carving goes.
These aren’t candles you burn once and throw away. The forms are big and the carving takes time. Each figure, from Helios and Gaia to Nyx, Selene, Prometheus, Coeus and Oceanus, comes with its own myth. That’s why a lot of people keep theirs unlit on a shelf for years, even though they burn cleanly and slowly when you do light them. You get a piece of decor and a candle in one.
Looking for hand-carved wax candles in Vancouver, or a sculptural candle that can hold its own as an art object? We ship the Genesis Collection across Canada and the United States, deliver for free around Vancouver, and you can pick up from the North Vancouver studio by appointment. There’s more about how they’re made on our About page.
Monumental by design.
Titan by name.
Most candles are poured, boxed and forgotten. Titan Candles are large-format wax sculptures, sculpted and finished by hand in Vancouver, BC by artist Arian Karami.
These pieces are made to hold a room, and they are not subtle. Some get burned down to the wick. Most are kept whole and displayed like the art objects they are. The name comes from their scale, and from old stories of figures built to stand against time.
Meet the makerCommon questions
What makes Titan Candles different from regular candles?
Size and detail, mostly. A Titan piece is a 30cm wax sculpture with relief carving: a figure from Greek mythology in soy wax, beeswax or a blend of the two. Each one is finished by hand in Vancouver, so no two are exactly alike, and most owners keep theirs on display rather than burning it.
Can I actually burn the candle, or is it just for display?
You can do either. They burn cleanly and slowly. Plenty of people keep theirs unlit as a sculpture, and some light theirs only for a special occasion. It is up to you.
Are Titan candles carved by hand or made in moulds?
Both, depending on the piece. Every design starts as an original sculpture by Arian Karami. Dark Series pieces are carved directly in wax with no mould, made to order, and each one carries its own serial number, so no two are alike. Collection pieces like the Genesis figures are cast from moulds of his originals, then detailed and finished by hand, so no two come out exactly alike. Limited Edition works are made in small, numbered runs.
Which wax do you use?
We use soy wax, beeswax and blends of the two, and pick the wax for each piece based on its size and how detailed the carving is. Soy burns cleanly and holds colour well across a carved surface. Beeswax smells faintly of honey, burns longer and keeps fine detail crisper. The Genesis Collection is cast in soy wax.
Do you ship across Canada?
Yes. Standard shipping is $25 CAD across Canada and $45 CAD to the United States. Local delivery in Vancouver is free, and studio pickup in North Vancouver is available by appointment at no charge.
Where are Titan Candles made?
In our studio in North Vancouver, BC. Arian Karami sculpts the originals and every piece is finished by hand. We are a small studio, not a factory, so each candle gets individual attention from start to finish.
How long does a candle take to burn?
A 30cm Genesis piece burns for about 24 hours, depending on conditions. Because of the carving, we recommend burning it on a heat-safe tray to catch wax that runs off the relief. Trim the wick to 5mm before each burn and the piece will last longer.
